Watch! Mapensela Showing Off His Football Skills On The Field
The name “Mapensela” has become so popular in the football industry in South Africa. His real name is Reggie Ndlovu, a football commentator that took the commentary industry by storm when he came to SABC. What he does, keeps the football fans glued to their screens with his amusing Zulu commentary.
Mapensela does his job with passion and his love for the game does not end on TV because he plays when he’s off-camera. He recently posted a video of himself showing flair against opponents while playing indoor football. Watch!

Mapensela was born in Soweto but raised in Nquthu, KwaZulu-Natal. He grew up in a family that was led by a single parent – his mother. He studied Television, Drama, and Production at the Durban University of Technology.
What inspired Mapensela to become a football commentator is that he was playing football at a young age. When he didn’t succeed in becoming a professional, his God-given talent for commentary took over.
“I always believed that I would be a professional footballer but when I went to DUT I had to focus more on acting and directing parts. I played a bit for Stratford Residence where I scooped goal of the season and midfielder of the season awards in 2010 but my studies always came first so I didn’t have much time for football. Commentary for me wasn’t my number one priority but when I got a chance I took it and ran with it,” Ndlovu told DUT.
Mapensela says what sets him apart from other commentators is his unique way and having fun while commentating.

“I think most of them worry a lot about statistics of the game and they end up forgetting the entertainment part, when someone is sitting at home they want to be entertained, so I always give out 30% of statistics and 70% of entertainment.
“Remember as a performer if you have fun the viewer will also have fun, so I think the energy and entertainment is what sets me apart not forgetting the creativity of coming up with new things,” explained Ndlovu.
