Orlando Pirates host Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN 8 semi-final first leg on Saturday afternoon. Club captain Innocent Maela is feeling confident ahead of the encounter.
The Buccaneers lost all their matches against this weekend’s opponents last season. In fact, even the season before they lost all their matches against The Brazilians.
Going into this match though, the Pirates faithful is feeling confident. Particularly after how they started the season under José Riveiro.
“We’re playing against a very good team, but we have a plan,” Maela told the club media.
“We know how to play the game and we must make sure that we don’t play the occasion but play the game.
“It’s also very important for us to do well in the first leg because it’s our home game in front of our supporters. At the end of the day, it’s a tie with two legs so we have to be smart, and we need to know how to play in a certain way to give ourselves a chance going into the second leg and ultimately progress to the final.”
Maela was part of the recent Bafana Bafana camp in the FIFA international break. He played the whole match as the national team beat Sierra Leone 4-0.
