“When I left Sundowns I knew I wasn’t just leaving a team but a family” Says Mokwena
After announcing that Rulani Mokowena would rejoin The Brazilians on Wednesday, he went straight into action. Once he received the all clear to join the team at camp it was back to training for his first session.
“My first session was fantastic, I received a warm welcome from everyone, the coaches, staff and players welcomed me very well. The training session was very well organised, the players gave me the same respect that I had before I left. Seeing the familiar faces like Hlompho, Denis, Themba, Kennedy is always exciting.”
After being away from the team for 3 years, they have seen great success with winning the Absa Premiership twice and the TKO. The drive to win is embedded in our DNA and Coach Rulani is well aware of this.
“I’ve come back to a familiar environment with familiar faces, an environment that has kept its ethos of professionalism, hard work, success and the drive to want to be the most competitive and the most successful club on the continent.”
With Sundowns being one of the more busy teams in Africa, Coach Rulani has had to hit ground running. From joining the camp as soon as possible he has already adopted the dreams and goals the team wants to achieve.
“They say team work makes the dream work and here at Sundowns the dream is known by many and is led by the ambition of the President (Dr. Patrice Motsepe) and his support in us and saying that he wants the club to be the best, not just in South Africa but on the African Continent. The dream is driven by the appetite and relentless pursuit of success that Coach Pitso possesses and his pursuit for excellence is what pushes the dream.”
Coach Rulani is no stranger to the yellow nation and is well aware that the support and love shown by the supporters is a big driving factor in what drives the team to always do better.
“This dream wouldn’t be anything without the loyal supporters who dream the same dream, who speak this same language of wanting to support a club that wants to be the best club on the African continent.”
