Masandawana Going Back To Lucas Moripe Stadium To Face Maritzburg United

Mamelodi Sundowns has a date with Maritzburg United today at 18:00, the game will take place at Lucas Moripe Stadium. This is an away game, but Masandawana will be playing on a ground that they are used to. Out of ten games played at Atteridgeville, only one loss has been recorded with seven wins and two draws.

“We started very well compared to where we are at the moment and it does not look good when it comes to the results. We thought the game against Highlands would give us an edge, we went with the attitude that we were going to win. Unfortunately, we started on the wrong note and we conceded, we had to come from behind and that puts stress on the team. Hopefully, we do not start like that with Maritzburg,” said Coach Pitso Mosimane.

There are six games left in the current season and Masandawana are six points behind log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs.

“If somebody says we are not looking at what other people are doing in our profession then it means you do not understand the log table, we can’t lie but we can say we are focusing on our game and will take it game by game as no one is guaranteed a win.”

The Brazilians have already played Maritzburg twice this season and won both times. One of those games was the final of the Telkom Knockout which saw us come out on top and claim our first silverware for the season.

Masandawana last played against Cape Town City on Monday and have had a few days in between and that is something that Coach Pitso has welcomed, as it will give players who are injured a chance to recover. “We have been getting two days break in between our games and a day for us is a bonus.”

“Maritzburg is a team that fights a lot, they were losing two zero against Leopards and they came back to 2-2. If you remember Friday nights at the Harry Gwala Stadium you will understand the character of the team. There is a fighting spirit, there is a never give up mentality and that is the team we are playing and the scores are always narrow and we are desperate and need a win. They have good players like Moseamedi who always scores against us and that guy likes big games. It is a team that attacks and scores goals and we have to respect that and I just hope we don’t concede a goal early because for the last two games we have been chasing the game, hopefully, we don’t chase the game and we lead the game as we did with Bidvest Wits and we ended up winning and mentally it’s helping.”
