Williams Expresses Desire To Play For Sundowns

It’s no longer a secret that SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams wants to leave the club as he feels that his career is ready for change. Diski365 reported last week that the shot-stopper revealed that he doesn’t foresee himself achieving the dreams he has at Matsatsantsa.

Williams has been one of the main subjects when it comes to the transfer windows over the past few years. With all the rumours indicating that he would move to one of the big three clubs, but it would all just vanish into thin air with him committing to his childhood club.

As per SABC Sport, Williams expressed his burning desire to join Mamelodi Sundowns – the cross-town rivals of his current club. It’s not surprising because he told the media last week that his dream is to win the league and Masandawana have done that five times in a row.

“Definitely, who wouldn’t want to play for the [treble] champions? I mean, they are at the pinnacle of South African football at the moment, and for the last few years,” Williams told SABC Sport.

“And it will only benefit me playing Champions League or Confederation Cup because, like you said, I’m part of the national team and that will only boost and help me.

“So, any offer that comes, if the offer is good and the club is happy then we shake hands and we move on.

“But, like I said, I think I’m at a time now when I need to challenge for things. I think I’ve done fairly well over the last few years, so we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks.”

His ambitions to win the league drive his eyes to look elsewhere rather than believing that Matsatsantsa can challenge for the title. He said: “My ambitions are to win the league. I told them I haven’t won the league and obviously the direction the club is going in now we should be realistic, we’ve got a lot of youngsters, there’s no chance that we can challenge the bigger boys.

“I can’t see us winning the league title. Yes, we will challenge for the cups here and there, but I’ve got bigger ambitions than that. We will see what happens, but if I stay, I will give my all like I always do.”

The latest transfer that took place between Sundowns and SuperSport saw Teboho Mokoena moving from Matsatsantsa to Chloorkop. Other players to do so before Mokoena was Grant Kekana and Aubrey Modiba.
