Wydad Casablanca Learn Cost of Making Thembinkosi Lorch’s Loan Move Permanent

Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club have reportedly been informed of the transfer fee required to sign Thembinkosi Lorch on a permanent basis from Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the season.
Lorch’s Impact at Wydad
Lorch made a shock loan switch to Wydad during the January transfer window, joining the club for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign. The move was facilitated by Wydad coach Rulani Mokwena, who had previously signed the attacker from Orlando Pirates while at Sundowns.
Since arriving in Casablanca, Lorch has played in every available match, starting three games and coming off the bench twice. His performances have impressed Wydad’s management, who are now keen to secure his services on a long-term basis.
Transfer Fee Revealed
According to Moroccan publication Le360 Sport, Wydad have learned that acquiring Lorch permanently will cost them $500,000 (R9.1 million). The club is reportedly eager to finalize the deal, as they see the 31-year-old as a key player moving forward.
Should the transfer materialize, Lorch would become the latest South African star to establish himself at Wydad after Cassius Mailula.
Mokwena Strengthens Backroom Staff
Meanwhile, Mokwena continues to receive strong backing from Wydad’s management regarding his decisions. In a move to enhance the club’s technical setup, Wydad have reportedly appointed Senegalese video performance analyst Abdoulaye Seck to join the coaching team.
Seck’s arrival adds to a growing South African influence at the club, with Mokwena already working alongside technical advisor Allan Freese, assistant coach Sinethemba Badela, performance analyst Sibusiso Makitla, fitness trainer Sibusiso Mahlangu, and second assistant coach Youssef Achami.
With Lorch proving his worth in Morocco, all eyes will now be on whether Wydad finalizes the deal to keep him beyond this season.
