Zitha Kwinika Endures Toughest Season Yet at Kaizer Chiefs

Zitha Kwinika is facing what could be his most challenging season since rejoining Kaizer Chiefs three years ago. The defender has struggled for game time under head coach Nasreddine Nabi, spending most of the campaign either on the bench or out of the match-day squad altogether.
Kwinika’s Lack of Game Time
With the season nearing its final stretch, Kwinika has only made a single appearance, coming off the bench for the last 14 minutes in Chiefs’ clash against Sekhukhune United in January. Apart from that, he has been an unused substitute six times, while on other occasions, he has not even made the squad.
His game time has declined significantly over the past three seasons. In his first year back at Chiefs, he made 28 appearances, which dropped to 18 last season, and now, just one in the current campaign. Even if he were to feature in every remaining fixture, it would still mark his worst season yet in terms of appearances.
Tough Competition for Places
Kwinika’s struggles stem from fierce competition in the squad. In central defense, Inacio Miguel and Given Msimango have cemented their places, while at right-back, Reeve Frosler, Dillan Solomons, and Njabulo Blom provide multiple options for Nabi. As a result, the 31-year-old has found himself sidelined and struggling to break into the coach’s plans.
Contract Concerns
Adding to his concerns is the uncertainty surrounding his future. Kwinika’s contract is reportedly set to expire at the end of June, leaving his long-term stay at Naturena in serious doubt.
With limited chances remaining this season, Kwinika faces a difficult path if he hopes to prove his worth and secure an extended stay at Chiefs. Otherwise, he may have to consider his options elsewhere as his time at the club appears to be running out.
