Nkosinathi Sibisi had to be substituted in the first half against Mamelodi Sundowns over the past weekend. Head coach Jose Riveiro was left baffled by this happening once again.
The defender has been substituted because of injury in his last three finals he has started, since joining The Buccaneers. He was replaced by Nigerian Olisa Ndah as he hobbled off.
Fortunately for Pirates, the absence of Sibisi has not stopped them from winning these last three finals. Namely the 2023 Nedbank Cup and the last two MTN 8 finals.
“That was a difficult moment,” Jose Riveiro explained to SuperSport TV.
“It happened to him in the two previous finals also. In the Nedbank Cup final, he broke his nose.
“But Ndah was ready. We, obviously, like with many positions, had our doubts during the week, because it’s been a long period for Ndah.
“He came back against [Kaizer] Chiefs but that didn’t finish the way we wanted. And after that, he got injured again.
“We were working a lot with him, he was working a lot to be ready for these games. Finally, he’s fully fit and ready to perform.
“So we knew that at some point he was going to be needed in the game. But not that early!”
