Man United boss confident of keeping job amid Mourinho rumours

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is confident he will remain at the club if he can guide them to a fourth place finish, according to reports from the Mirror.

Van Gaal has been heavily linked with an exit in recent weeks, with the club reportedly in negotiations with ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho amid the Red Devils’ struggles.

However, with one year remaining on his contract, the Dutchman believes that if he can complete the objective of qualifying for next season’s Champions League campaign, he will remain at the United helm.

He will have a tough task doing so though, with his side six points behind title challengers Manchester City, who currently sit in fourth.

And Van Gaal has already shown his frustrations amid speculation of Mourinho’s impending arrival, even exclaiming to a reporter than he should be the one sacked instead.

United have a chance to close their gap with City when the travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland on Saturday.
