The Dutch have eased passed the group stages in their first FIFA World Cup since 2014. Goals came from Cody Gakpo, who becomes the first Dutch player to score in all three group matches and midfielder Frenkie De Jong.

Netherlands will face the USA this Saturday, in the last 16 of the showpiece event. They are striving to win the FIFA World Cup for the very first time in their history.

“I heard that stat and I’m happy about it, but the most important thing is that we won the game tonight,” Cody Gakpo told the FIFA media, in regard to scoring in three successive group matches.

“That’s what matters most to me. I’m happy but I’m not thinking about that now.

“We want to win the World Cup, we’re united, and I’ll try and help the team in any way I can.” He added.

“Our aim is clear: we want to win the World Cup,” Atalanta midfielder Marten De Roon spoke.

“That’s the mentality you need otherwise what’s the point of being here?

“There’s a long way to go but for now we’re in the next round. It was a close match today, but I think we dominated and managed the game at 2-0.

“There are no easy games; just look at ours against Ecuador, look at Senegal, look at today’s match. There are no easy games in this World Cup and you’re going to have to beat everyone if you want to win it.”
