José Riveiro Claims They Were Better Than Mamelodi Sundowns! The Buccaneers suffered a defeat at the hands of The Brazilians.

Orlando Pirates lost 1-0 at home to Mamelodi Sundowns in the DSTV Premiership over the past weekend. Head coach José Riveiro believes that they deserved more from the encounter.

Striker Cassius Mailula scored the only goal of the game in the first five minutes. The Bucs came close to finding the net, even hitting the crossbar at one point.

“I think we were better in both halves. We did the analysis because of the results, we went to halftime with a disadvantage, but I didn’t see any moment of the game where [Mamelodi] Sundowns was better than us today,” he told Lwazi Ziqubu of SuperSport TV.

“I think [from] the recent games we have played against them [this one] was the best one so far and by far. But the game is a scoring goals game, they scored once, we didn’t and that’s why they are celebrating, and we are not.

“But the performance of the Orlando Pirates players today was outstanding in my opinion.” He added.

The Spaniard also gave insights into what made them the better team in the 90 minutes.

“A lot of things, I cannot analyse the game for you right now in 30 seconds, but just think about the amount of times Sundowns was wasting and using during the game. Something that is not frequent to see, it tells you quite clearly how much they were suffering to contain us.

“Today we cry, it’s a defeat. We are not happy with the result, but we are building something much more important and its going to be positive for the future to know that when we are at our level, we can dominate every team.” Riveiro concluded.
