10 Things We Learnt From Fikile Mabalula’s Press Conference
Today at 12 pm, Fikile Mbalula held a press conference at the SAFA House. This press conference was held to clear South Africa from the $10 million bribe scandal. Here are 10 things we learnt from the conference.
1. The minister categorically denied that the payment of $10 m was a bribe and says that South Africa government stands by its statement.
2. South African government has not paid anyone to secure the 2010 SWC.
3. Sport and recreation released a statement in May in reply to the FBI.
4. South Africa worked hard in order to secure the World Cup to be held in South Africa.
5. The allocation of payment has always been a football matter between FIFA and the country’s football association.
6. We continue to drive programmes on he continent with FIFA and SAFA through the Diaspora.
7. We would have won the World Cup bid without giving money to the Caribbean. We only got two votes from CONCACAF.
8. What ever deal South Africa made with Jerome Valcke, it was in our normal dealings with FIFA.
9. Mbalula made it clear that we do not have a problem with U.S but we will never compromise our sovereignty.
10. Mbalula said that he is still waiting for the report from FIFA in regards to match fixing.
