Mamelodi Sundowns Promotes Malebogo Modise

Youngster Malebogo Modise, who has been part of the Mamelodi Sundowns Academy structures for six years has been promoted to the senior team. The versatile defender has signed a five-year deal after being one of the standout players in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge.

The Mahikeng born junior international has come up the ranks having represented South Africa in the U/17 age group and at the FIFA Under20 World Cup twice. His international career includes a Bafana Bafana cap in the CHAN Tournament. Modise who is also known as “Bale” is currently in camp (Rustenberg) with the rest of the squad, he will not be able to play in any of this season’s remaining games once football returns but will be registered for next season.

Coach Pitso Mosimane described the 21-year-old Modise as a player that can play as a left-back and left-winger with speed and said “He is young and has height with a quality left foot. He fits the characteristics of our wingbacks as he can attack and defend. He has been part of the junior national team and it is the right time to have him over. We can proudly say we are producing players from our youth system”.

Malebogo follows in the footsteps of other Mamelodi Sundowns Youth Academy graduates like Keletso Makalgwa, Sphelele Mkhulise, Motjeka Madisha, Abram Ngcobo, Nicholus Lukhubeni, Promise Mkhuma, Harold Majadibodu and Percy Tau who is plying his trade abroad.
