Orbit College Coach Criticizes Monnapule Saleng’s Impact

Orbit College head coach Pogiso Makhoye has openly questioned the influence of Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng, suggesting the on-loan attacker may be hindering the team rather than helping.
Speaking on Metro FM’s SNAWA show, Makhoye highlighted concerns over the club’s recent inconsistent form and the role of senior players returning to the squad. He argued that the team’s performance sometimes improves in the absence of high-profile players.
“The so-called big players, maybe when they came back, they had a negative impact on the team. The team that I watched on Tuesday was a different team to the one I watched on Saturday, so maybe if you don’t have those big name players, then the players tend to perform very well when they are not on the pitch,” Makhoye said.
Saleng joined Orbit College on loan with the expectation of bringing experience and leadership. The winger, who has enjoyed success in the PSL, was expected to provide creative spark and guidance. However, Makhoye believes he has not lived up to the expectations associated with his reputation.
“So far, I think he has not given us what we expected from him as a big player that comes with a big name. Those are the things we need to sit down and look at as a team. Are we performing better when he’s not in the team?” the coach added.
Makhoye confirmed that the matter has been addressed directly with Saleng. The player was urged to reflect on his performances and elevate his contributions to the team.
“It is a conversation that was had with the player to say that he needs to up his game because we said we had a top game on Tuesday and when he came back into the team, we played a different game,” Makhoye explained.
The comments signal that Orbit College expects more from Saleng, both in terms of on-field performance and influence on the squad. The winger’s response in upcoming matches could prove decisive for both his loan spell and the team’s push for better results.
