The Portuguese Cristiano makes his history for himself,the country and his club. Cristiano Ronaldo might have surrendered to injury early on in Sunday’s Euro 2016 final but with his team Portugal going on to defeat France on their home soil, the Real Madrid forward has added international awards to his long list of club medals.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the all-time top goalscorer for the Portugal national football team. As of 10 July 2016, he has scored 61 goals in 133 appearances since his debut in 20 August 2003.
Cristiano Ronaldo has participated in seven major tournaments: four UEFA European Championships in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 and three FIFA World Cup in 2006, 2010 and 2014, scoring in all seven events. At Euro 2016, Portugal won its first ever major trophy, defeating hosts France 1–0 after extra time, with the winning goal scored by Éder.
Cristiano Ronaldo later lifted the trophy as his team’s captain, and was also awarded the Silver Boot as one of the second highest goalscorers of the tournament, with three goals and three assists; he was also named to the team of the tournament for the third time in his career.
