10 Things You Don’t Know About Soumahoro Bangaly

Soumahoro Bangaly is an Ivory Coast international, born in 1991 and has done exceptionally well in central defence. Below are 10 things you don’ t know about Bangaly.
- Bangaly shares a birthday with political icon Nelson Mandela, July the 18th.
- Bangaly once played in the Romanian league for Ramnicu Valceu in 2012.
- Not having regular game time, Bangaly returned to his home country and joined Asec Mimosa 2012.
- He was selected as the league’s player of the month in May 2015, and was subsequently nominated for the Player of the Year award at the “Ivorian Football Oscars” a few months afterwards.
- Bangaly joined Sundowns in September 2015 to replace Alje Schut who went back to play at home in the Netherlands.
- He made his professional debut with the club on September 15, 2015, during a 2-1 loss to Golden Arrows. He was replaced at halftime by manager Pitso Mosimane after several mistakes, most notably failing to clear a ball which lead to the Golden Arrows’ opening goal.
- As a French speaking player, Bangaly difficulties communicating with fellow teammates at Sundowns as he was not used to speaking English. He however has learnt basic communication skills and has adapted well at Chloorkop.
- By April 2016, he had fully integrated and was a regular member of the starting XI following several impressive performance in the CAF Champions League.
- Bangaly won the PSL title, CAF Champions and CAF Super Cup with Mamelodi Sundowns after coming back from a groin injury last season.
