Zlatan Ibrahimovich Malmo Statue Burnt After Acquiring Stake in Rival Club
A giant 9ft statue, created outside Malmo’s stadium in honour of Zlatan Abrahimovich last month has become the target of anger amongst MALMO Ultras who set it on fire after the striker became co-owner of rivals Hammarby.
His decision to invest a significant stake aimed at making the Stockholm outfit Scandinavia’s biggest team has been met with fury by Malmo fans and his legacy at Malmo, his first professional club now appears to be in tatters.
The veteran hitman, who left Malmo for Ajax in 2001, claims he can use his contacts to help top-flight side Hammarby dominate Scandinavia – and will try to promote youth to achieve his goal.
Fans were furious at his involvement in a rival club and vandalised the 3.5 metre-high statue as well as spraying it with paint, while video footage posted online shows it being set on fire.
“I want Hammarby to have the best youth academy in Sweden. Hammarby should get the best talents and nurture the best talents.
“I have resources that can help and a network that opens up what is needed to be able to have the best academy.” said Ibrahimovich however his decision did not go down well with supporters of Malmo.
