“You Never Lose-You Win Or Learn” Jose Mourinho Quotes Tata Mandela As He Prepares To Face Former Club Manchester United
New Tottenham Hotspurs manager Jose Mourinho was at his philosophical best and quoted South Africa global icon and statesman Nelson Mandela as he reflected on his time at Manchester United ahead of his return to Old Trafford tonight.
The Portuguese boss insists he doesn’t hold a grudge over how it ended for him at United, and quoted Nelson Mandela when describing his feelings for the club.
“Like a bit like Mr Mandela was saying ‘you never lose, you win or you learn’. At United I won and I learned. My time after I left was a good time for me. It’s not for me to analyse United now.”
“Now I analyse them as team as an opponent, the way they play, how can they beat us, how can we beat them. This is for me the important thing, nothing else.”
Mourinho’s two-and-a-half-year spell at United turned sour before his dismissal in December 2018 but he led the club to a second-place finish in 2017-18 and won the League Cup and Europa League the previous season.
The Portuguese had a strained relationship with a number of senior players, notably World Cup winner Paul Pogba, and repeatedly clashed with Red Devils chief Ed Woodward over transfers.
Mourinho is currently enjoying his return to the English Premier League and obviously his spell at Tottenham as he has guided Spurs to three consecutive victories and will be looking to extend his winning streak at his former club.
