Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Mathaithai FC 6-0 in the Nedbank Cup last night. Co-coach Rulani Mokwena was pleased to get past the minnows.
The Brazilians showed their level at the very first minute of the match when Surprise Ralani found the back of the net. The lead was doubled soon after by Themba Zwane.
In the second half, Thabiso Kutumela scored the third and fourth goals of the encounter to seal the victory. Further goals from Lebohang Maboe and Andile Jali rounded off the routing.
“Congratulations to our team,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV after the victory.
“It was not a fluent performance in relation to our schemes. But that’s only normal when you’ve changed the line-up and rotated the squad.
“That’s the price you’ll pay because you lose cohesive superiority. The attitude of the players was very good.
“The application, the energy was very good, and they did the best that they could under very difficult circumstances.
“It’s not easy to play against an opponent that you don’t know too much about because they play in the lower league. But our preparations, our diligence in making sure that we have the information for the players, and we show how serious we are about this game it also allowed us to try to get them in to the right frame of mind.” He added.
Masandawana are well on their way to win all three domestic cups this season.
“We do our work. We are diligent in our responsibilities.
“We know that they’ve got a very important game against Pyramids FC tonight at 8’oclock. We will record that game and watch it as soon as we get home.” He said of their opponents Al Ahly, who they are hosting this weekend.
