Golden Arrows lost 2-0 at home to Orlando Pirates in the DSTV Premiership last night. Co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi was very upset by the way they conceded the goals.
Monnapule Saleng scored two first half goals to ultimately secure the points for the visitors. The hosts only started bothering goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane in the second half, chasing the game.
“I think we had a very terrible first half, I must say,” Vilakazi admitted to Phumlani Msibi of SuperSport TV.
“Allowing Pirates to be able to score the two goals. Today they were not one of the best versions of themselves, regarding the Pirates that we know.
“But because they have experienced players, and they were clinical in front of goal [they scored]. We could have avoided the two goals; our structure was strong enough.
“But it is water under the bridge now. We had a better second half, we tried to have two number 10’s and attack them, but we’re still missing that link between the midfielders and strikers.
“I think we still need to give a lot of attention up front with our strikers, whoever is playing as a striker, I think the link between him, and our midfielders was a little bit less today. I think we will work on it going forward.
“A better second half in terms of playing and stuff like that. But it’s not about playing, its about scoring goals.
“We were playing at home; we should have avoided losing three points. But better luck next time for our team and I will encourage the boys.
“We still need to keep our head up and make sure that we win our next game when we face Royal AM.” He added.
