CAF President Announces Significant Increase in CHAN Prize Money

The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has revealed an exciting development for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) ahead of its 2024 edition. In a bid to enhance the competition’s prestige and attractiveness, Dr. Motsepe confirmed that prize money for the tournament will see a substantial increase.

Major Prize Money Boost for CHAN

The upcoming CHAN, scheduled to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, will offer a 75% increase in the prize for the overall winner. The winning team will now receive $3.5 million (R65 million), marking a significant boost to the competition’s rewards. Additionally, the total prize pool for the 2024 tournament will rise by 32%, bringing the total to $10.4 million (R195 million).

This increase is part of CAF’s broader strategy to invest in African football, improve its global competitiveness, and make its competitions more appealing to fans, sponsors, and partners both within Africa and internationally.
