Uncertainty Lingers Over Owen Da Gama’s Future at Magesi FC Ahead of New Season

The future of veteran coach Owen Da Gama at Magesi FC remains unresolved as both parties continue negotiations ahead of the new Betway Premiership season. Despite expectations that a deal to extend his stay would already be finalised, discussions between Da Gama and the club are still ongoing.
Da Gama was instrumental in ensuring Magesi FC preserved their top-flight status after taking over from Clinton Larsen late last year. Larsen, who had guided the team to both the first division title and Carling Knockout Cup success, departed due to internal challenges at the club.
In stepped Da Gama, bringing with him a wealth of experience that proved vital in steering the club away from relegation danger. Under his leadership, Magesi collected 26 of their total 31 points, climbing from the bottom of the table to safety by the end of the campaign.
His impressive turnaround was recognised in March when he was named Betway Premiership Coach of the Month.
While the club holds an option to extend Da Gama’s contract, both sides still need to resolve key terms before any agreement is made official. Sources close to the club indicate that while there is mutual interest in continuing the relationship, logistical and operational matters still need to be ironed out.
Such uncertainties are not uncommon for clubs recently promoted to the top tier. Magesi FC, like many teams transitioning from lower divisions, face a steep learning curve in adapting to the demands of the Premiership. Beyond the coaching position, there are other structural and operational improvements required to ensure long-term survival at this level.
With pre-season preparations looming — Magesi are expected to return to training later this month, following their final match of the season on May 28 — the club will be eager to settle Da Gama’s future soon to allow for proper planning.
For now, the glue in the deal remains unset. Both Magesi FC and Owen Da Gama will be hoping for a resolution that allows them to build on the promising foundation laid in the second half of last season.
