Phillip Ndlondlo Attracts Strong Interest as Chippa United Lead Race for His Signature

With his contract at Orlando Pirates reportedly set to expire, midfielder Phillip Ndlondlo has become one of the most sought-after free agents in the Betway Premiership, with several top-flight clubs circling to secure his services ahead of the new season.

As first reported by Soccer Laduma, Pirates appear ready to part ways with the 28-year-old midfielder, whose future at the club has been uncertain following a challenging campaign. After joining the Soweto giants from Marumo Gallants three seasons ago, Ndlondlo made a strong impression in his early days at Mayfair but fell out of favour during the most recent campaign — largely due to the emergence of rising talent Thalente Mbatha.

Now, sources close to the situation have confirmed that Chippa United are emerging as the frontrunners to land Ndlondlo. The Chilli Boys are believed to be in advanced discussions and are keen to finalise a deal once Pirates officially confirm the player’s availability.

“At the moment, Chippa United are in the lead to sign Ndlondlo. Although his contract was expected to expire on June 30, he is still at Pirates. Chippa are waiting for confirmation from Pirates before proceeding with the move. They need his experience, especially after releasing several players ahead of the new season,” a source close to the deal told Soccer Laduma.

While Chippa United appears to be in pole position, the race is far from over. Marumo Gallants — Ndlondlo’s former club — remain interested in reuniting with their former star. Polokwane City are also believed to have expressed interest, setting up a competitive race for the midfielder’s signature.

“There’s definite interest from Marumo Gallants and Polokwane City. It all depends on which club agrees with the player and his representatives. One thing is certain — he won’t be short of options,” a second insider shared.

When approached for comment, Chippa United executive director Lukhanyo Mzinzi offered no confirmation, saying only, “No comment for now.”

Despite a quieter season with the Buccaneers, Ndlondlo’s skillset, vision, and experience at the highest level make him a valuable asset for any Premiership side looking to reinforce its midfield. With pre-season preparations underway across the league, a decision on his future is expected soon — one that could prove pivotal in shaping the ambitions of his next club.
