Nkosinathi Sibisi Ready for MTN8 Final Return Against Stellenbosch

Nkosinathi Sibisi has endured his share of bad luck in cup finals with Orlando Pirates. Twice, in the Nedbank Cup and MTN8, injuries forced him off during crucial matches. This time the situation is different. He returns from injury just in time for Saturday’s MTN8 final against Stellenbosch FC at Mbombela Stadium, a repeat of last year’s clash.
Sibisi has been sidelined since early August, making only two appearances in Pirates’ last eight matches across competitions. His absence also ruled him out of Bafana Bafana’s World Cup qualifiers. Now back in full training, he says he is ready if head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou selects him.
“It’s good to be back. It’s never easy when you are injured. In terms of being ready for selection, yes I am ready for selection. I have been training with the guys, so it’s good to be back,” Sibisi told reporters during the MTN8 press conference at Rand Stadium.
While Sibisi recovered, 19-year-old Mbekezeli Mbokazi stepped up as captain. The teenager has shown maturity beyond his years, guiding Pirates through high-pressure games and earning praise for his performances with both club and country. He stood out in Bafana Bafana’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Nigeria.
Sibisi applauded Mbokazi’s leadership. “With Mbokazi captaining the team, I think he did a fantastic job. For him to lead such a big institution at his young age and to do the things he has been doing for Orlando Pirates and the national team, it can only get better from here. I say kudos to him.”
Saturday’s final presents an opportunity for Pirates to secure a fourth consecutive MTN8 title. Sibisi could partner Mbokazi in central defence, adding experience to youthful energy as the Buccaneers aim to extend their dominance in the competition.
