Peter Shalulile Becomes PSL’s All-Time Top Goal-Scorer

Peter Shalulile has cemented his place in Premier Soccer League history, becoming the league’s all-time top goal-scorer with 130 goals. The Namibian striker surpassed Siyabonga Nomvethe’s record of 129 goals, a milestone that had stood for years.

Mamelodi Sundowns celebrated Shalulile’s achievement on Sunday ahead of their match against Magesi FC. The club presented him with a framed jersey bearing the number 130, handed over by chairman Thlopie Motsepe and club legend Trott Moloto. Teammates and technical staff formed a guard of honour, applauding the striker’s landmark.

Speaking exclusively to the Siya crew, Shalulile’s representative, Jakes Amaning, highlighted the significance of the milestone. “Seven years ago, people were saying no one would ever break Nomvethe’s record. Strikers rarely scored more than 15 goals a season, and it felt impossible. But today, Peter has done it,” Amaning said.

He also pointed to the evolution of the game and the role of fans in Shalulile’s success. “The game has changed – it’s faster now, training methods are better, and players are pushed to reach new levels. Peter couldn’t have done it without the fans. If you look at Sundowns’ TikTok, you see how much they love him. He dances with them, sings with them, and they love him for what he does best – scoring goals.”

Amaning credited the coaches who shaped Shalulile’s career. “We must give credit to those who worked with him. Ricardo Mannetti gave Peter his first opportunity with Namibia at COSAFA. Pitso Mosimane signed him for Sundowns. Manqoba Mngqithi admired him deeply. And Rhulani Mokwena loves Peter more than himself. He has never worked with a footballer like Peter – he makes football enjoyable, listens, works hard, and gives everything.”

Beyond his statistics, Amaning emphasized Shalulile’s character as key to his longevity. “Peter has always been humble. Despite winning PSL Footballer of the Year, finishing top scorer multiple times, and now breaking records, he has never changed. He stays grounded and avoids distractions. Peter is not finished yet. There are still more records and achievements coming from him.”

Shalulile’s record highlights his consistency, professionalism, and impact on South African football. His achievement sets a new benchmark for strikers in the PSL and reinforces his status as one of the league’s greatest ever goal-scorers.
