Stellenbosch FC Set to Sign Mamelodi Sundowns Left-Back Asekho Tiwani

Stellenbosch FC are close to finalising a loan deal for Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Asekho Tiwani to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. The South African U20 captain is set to arrive following the departure of Turan Manafov, who has returned to Azerbaijan to join Gabala FC on loan. Tiwani is expected to compete with Omega Mdaka for the starting left-back role.

Tiwani has struggled for game time at Sundowns this season, making no appearances for the club. Competition at Chloorkop is intense, with Thato Sibiya, Aubrey Modiba, Divine Lunga, and Fawaaz Basadien all in contention for the left-back position. Sibiya recently made his CAF Champions League debut during Sundowns’ 2-2 draw with Al Hilal of Sudan, highlighting the depth in that position.

A source close to the player confirmed the move, stating, “Ja, he’s going to Stellenbosch on loan; that’s true. The main aim is for him to go overseas. He used to be represented by P Management, but he’s now managed by an overseas agent, and if he’s playing on a regular basis, it’s going to help him.” The move is viewed as an opportunity for Tiwani to gain consistent playing time and increase his prospects for a future overseas transfer.

Stellenbosch FC have declined to comment on the deal. Head of Media and Stakeholder Relations Liam Bekker told the media, “As a matter of policy, the club does not comment on transfer rumours and speculation.” Despite the silence, insiders suggest the deal is near completion.

Tiwani had previously been linked with European clubs, including Romanian side FCSB and Moldovan side FC Sheriff. His arrival would mark the fourth signing for Stellenbosch during the January transfer window, following Tshegofatso Mabasa, Kobamelo Kodisang, and Mosa Lebusa. The addition of Tiwani is expected to bolster Stellies’ defensive options as they aim to maintain momentum in the Betway Premiership.
