Marumo Gallants Strengthen Midfield With Loan Signing of Mohammed Doumbia

Bloemfontein-based Marumo Gallants have completed the signing of Ivorian central midfielder Mohammed Doumbia as they look to reinforce their squad for the remainder of the season. The 27-year-old joins Bahlabane Ba Ntwa on a loan deal from Tanzanian giants Young Africans, also known as Yanga. The move comes at a critical stage of the campaign, with Gallants fighting to climb away from the lower end of the Premier Soccer League table. Club insiders have confirmed that the player has already arrived and finalized his contract. The deal includes an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
Doumbia was seeking a fresh start after a difficult spell in Tanzania. He joined Young Africans just five months ago from Burkina Faso side Majestic FC on a two-year contract. Despite high expectations, the move did not work out as planned, prompting both parties to agree on a loan switch. Gallants now offer him a platform to revive his career and regain consistency through regular football. His experience at club level is expected to add value to a squad under pressure.
The Ivorian midfielder brings international experience to the PSL. He previously played in the Czech Premier League for Dukla Prague and Slovan Liberec, where he was exposed to a high-tempo and tactical style of football. That background could prove useful in South Africa, especially in central areas where Gallants have struggled for control and stability. His ability to read the game and distribute the ball is seen as a key asset. The technical team will hope he adapts quickly once cleared to play.
At Marumo Gallants, Doumbia joins a growing group of foreign-based players. His arrival adds to the Ivorian contingent that includes Ibrahim Bance, Eroine Agnikoi and new signing Romaric Ouattara, who recently arrived from Algeria. The squad also features Zambian forward Emmanuel Mwiinde, who previously played in Bahrain. This blend of backgrounds reflects the club’s strategy to inject experience and physical presence into the team. It also highlights a deliberate push to compete more effectively despite current league struggles.
Doumbia will not be available for immediate selection as he awaits his work permit. As a result, he will miss the midweek clash against Kaizer Chiefs, where Gallants have included Romaric Ouattara, Mwiinde, Bance and Agnikoi in the matchday squad. The team is coached by Frenchman Alexandre Lafitte, who brings a winning pedigree after securing a league title with Ivorian side Stade d’Abidjan. His familiarity with West African football could help Doumbia settle faster.
The signing of Mohammed Doumbia signals Marumo Gallants’ intent to fight on all fronts. While the team remains focused on survival, adding an experienced central midfielder could prove decisive in tight matches. Once cleared to play, Doumbia will be under pressure to deliver impact performances. For Gallants, this move represents both a short-term solution and a potential long-term investment.
