Orlando Pirates Midfielder Sihle Nduli Remains Weeks Away from Training

Orlando Pirates midfielder Sihle Nduli is still several weeks from returning to full training as he continues his recovery from a November injury sustained against Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership. The setback forced Nduli to miss the remainder of the year, including the Carling Knockout Cup final in December, which Pirates won without one of their key midfielders.

Nduli had quickly established himself as a central figure in Pirates’ midfield during his debut season after joining from Stellenbosch FC. By the time of his injury, the 30-year-old had started all 10 league matches and played a pivotal role in Pirates’ MTN8 campaign, helping head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou secure his first silverware at the club. His consistent performances had made him a reliable presence in the squad and a fan favourite.

Although Nduli underwent a successful operation, sources close to the midfielder say he is still weeks away from rejoining full training. “He is currently undergoing rehabilitation and is not yet ready to train with the rest of the squad. While he has made encouraging progress, he is still weeks away from rejoining full training. He is walking on his own, without a moon boot or crutches, but is still limping,” a source revealed.

Despite his absence, Nduli was spotted at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday as Pirates secured a 2-0 victory over Magesi FC to keep their Betway Premiership title hopes alive. In midfield, Makhehleni Makhaula and Thalente Mbatha have stepped up to maintain stability and continue Pirates’ strong form.

Elsewhere in the Buccaneers camp, goalkeeper coach Tyron Damons has shown significant progress following a road traffic accident in August involving several team members, including head coach Ouaddou. Observers noted that Damons appeared in good spirits during the recent match, indicating a positive recovery. Nduli’s eventual return will provide a major boost to Pirates’ midfield options, reinforcing their push for league and cup success this season.
