African Women’s Footballer Of The Year For The Past 10 Years
Women football is still not acknowledged as it should be but attention is starting to grow for women in football over the last decade. These are the African women’s footballers of the year since 2001.
1.Mercy Akide, from Nigeria won the award in 2001.
2.Alberta Sackey, from Ghana won the award in 2002.
3.Adjoa Bayor, from Ghana took the award in 2003 from fellow teammate Alberta Sackey who won it in 2002.
4.Perpetua Nkwocha, from Nigeria took the award from Ghana and back to Nigeria in 2004.
5.In 2005, Perpetua Nkwocha, from Nigeria dominated them women football scene and won the award for the second time.
6.Cynthia Uwak, from Nigeria won the award in 2006, 2007, and made sure that Nigerians dominate the number of this award to be won by Nigerian female footballers.
7.In 2008, Noko Matlou, from South Africa took the award to be the first South African footballer to win the award.
8.In 2010 and 2011, Perpetua Nkwocha, won the award back to back. The woman from Nigeria played exceptionally well.
9.Genoveva Anonma, from Equatorial Guinea, won the award in 2012.
10.Asisat Oshoala, from Nigeria won the award in 2014 to keep Nigeria in the lead for most wins of this award.
11. Gaelle Enganamouit, from Cameroon came to the picture and won the award in 2015.
12. In 2016, Asisat Oshoala, won the award again for Nigeria.
