Amakhosi Turn Cup Glory into Community Impact

Kaizer Chiefs have extended their 2025 Nedbank Cup triumph beyond the football field by investing in community development. On Wednesday, 3 September 2025, the Club, in partnership with Nedbank, The Sports Trust, the Official PSL, and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, officially handed over a new multi-purpose sports court to Phulong Secondary School in Kwa-Thema, Springs.

The handover forms part of the Nedbank Cup legacy initiative, which rewards the champions with the opportunity to select a school to benefit from an infrastructure upgrade. Chiefs chose Phulong Secondary as the beneficiary, citing the school’s active participation in local sports and its need for quality facilities to support its learners.

The newly built facility will serve multiple sporting codes, including netball, five-a-side football, basketball, and volleyball. Designed to promote inclusivity, it will also be open to the surrounding community, creating a space that encourages youth participation in sport, recreation, and healthy lifestyles.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kaizer Chiefs officials emphasized that the project reflects the Club’s commitment to giving back to society. Nedbank representatives highlighted how sport can be a powerful tool for social development, while the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture praised the initiative for aligning with government efforts to uplift township schools through improved access to sporting infrastructure.

For Phulong Secondary School, the handover marks a turning point. Teachers and learners expressed optimism that the facility will boost participation in extracurricular activities and enhance talent development. The school has produced promising young athletes in the past, and the availability of a high-quality court is expected to improve training and performance levels.

This partnership underscores the broader goal of the Nedbank Cup legacy projects, which have delivered similar facilities across South Africa over the years. Each installation not only celebrates football success but also leaves behind a lasting contribution to grassroots sports.

Kaizer Chiefs’ decision to channel their cup success into tangible community upliftment demonstrates the Club’s recognition that football glory carries a responsibility to inspire and empower. By investing in Kwa-Thema, Amakhosi have ensured that their 2025 victory will be remembered not only for the silverware lifted but also for the lives impacted through sport.
