Ansu Fati Makes Spanish Football History
Ansu Fati Makes Spanish Football History. The young Barcelona forward became the youngest Spanish international to score for La Furia Roja. The diminutive winger found the back of the net to make it 3-0 in the first half.
Fati could’ve had his first goal against Germany last week. He found the back of the net with a consummate header. The goal was chalked off because Sergio Ramos was found guilty of fouling in the build up to the goal.
This didn’t hamper the youngster at all. In his first start for Spain, an influential performance saw him win a penalty in the first half. This was topped when he curled the ball into the corner of the net.
When Ansu Fati came off the bench against Germany, he became the youngest debutant in 84 years. A few days later he became the youngest scorer at just 17 years and 311 days old. The record has stood for 95 years.
Ansu Fati enjoyed a fantastic debut season for FC Barcelona. He scored 9 goals and got 1 assist. He became a source of freshness and exuberance to a sometimes stale Barcelona side.
His introduction into the Spanish national setup is for these very reasons. Since dominating world football between 2008 and 2012; winning consecutive European Championships and the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Spain have been lacklustre.
Accused of implementing too much of possession based football. They’ve fallen short of their standards in following European Championships and FIFA World Cups. They have been dumped out because of a style of football that’s too slow and lacking any pace or dynamism.
Ansu Fati’s introduction to the national setup sees the tiki taka influenced side have more directness to the side.
“When we choose the squad we do not look at his age. That does not mean that we do not have to understand that Ansu Fati will play bad games and will make mistakes many times. It is part of his learning, but that self-confidence is not normal” said Spanish coach Luis Enrique as Ansu Fati makes Spanish football history.
