‘Baccus Is Definitely Not Staying At Chiefs’ – Agent

Kearyn Baccus’ agent Mike Makaab has confirmed that the midfielder will be leaving Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the upcoming season. There are some clubs interested in him locally but he could also go back to his home country.

The future of the Durban-born midfielder at Chiefs has been uncertain for a long time with rumours of him departing the club surfacing the media. His agent was clear that there are no chances of him staying with the Glamour Boys next season.

“Kearyn Baccus is definitely not staying at Chiefs. We will look at options for him locally, but he also has opportunities outside of South Africa,” his local agent Mike Makaab told SABC.

“It could be that he goes back to Australia, we only work with Kearyn in South Africa – he has an agent outside of the country,” Makaab added.

“But we have a good relationship and we’ve always been honest and transparent with each other and I am just disappointed that it hasn’t worked out at Chiefs, to be honest.”

AmaZulu and Royal AM have been mentioned among clubs interested in Baccus but it remains to be seen where he will be heading to. “We have had interest in Kearyn from a number of clubs in the country,” Makaab recently said on Gagasi FM.

“But again, I’m going to say to you that we are, first and foremost, going to look at whether Chiefs are keen on his services or not.

“It would be unfair on us to pressure on them now given that a new coaching team is taking over, and let’s see what the plans are for the new season in terms of the coaching staff.

“I don’t have to tell you that when you are in limbo in terms of coaching personnel, it’s very difficult for you as a football club to sign players and then bring in a new coach.

“In an ideal situation, you want to bring in a new coach and then decide on your squad, and that’s what the difficult is when you are unsettled with your coaching staff.”

Baccus joined Chiefs from Australian giants Melbourne City in July 2019. His first season was promising under coach Ernst Midderndorp but turned sour under Gavin and Stuart Baxter. He made 46 appearances and scored twice for Chiefs but it seems like he’s not pleased with his stay at Amakhosi. While this season, Buccas only made 12 appearances for the Soweto-based club.
