Bafana Bafana Coach Hugo Broos Names Squad for Final 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced his squad for the final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with matches against Zimbabwe at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban and Rwanda at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga. The announcement comes just days after FIFA docked South Africa three points for fielding the ineligible Teboho Mokoena in a March clash against Lesotho.

The sanction has dropped Bafana to second place in Group E on goal difference, making victories in the remaining matches essential to keep their World Cup hopes alive. The team faces Zimbabwe on Friday, 10 October, before taking on Rwanda four days later.

Broos has made some changes to the squad to strengthen the side. Mamelodi Sundowns defender Malibongwe Khoza earns his first call-up following strong recent performances. Thabang Matuludi replaces Nyiko Mobbie, while Sphephelo Sithole returns after recovering from injury. Sithole previously formed a strong midfield partnership with Teboho Mokoena during the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and could start alongside him in both qualifiers.

Siyabonga Ngezana has been left out due to suspension after accumulating two yellow cards.

The full squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Ronwen Williams, Sipho Chaine, Ricardo Goss

Defenders: Malibongwe Khoza, Khuliso Mudau, Khulumani Ndamane, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Aubrey Modiba, Thabang Matuludi, Samukelo Kabini

Midfielders: Teboho Mokoena, Sphephelo Sithole, Bathusi Aubass, Thalente Mbatha

Forwards: Lyle Foster, Oswin Appollis, Relebohile Mofokeng, Thapelo Morena, Sipho Mbule, Iqraam Rayners, Tshepang Moremi, Mohau Nkota

Broos’ focus will be on maximizing performance in the remaining qualifiers, with South Africa needing full points to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The squad combines experience and form, aiming to overcome the setback and deliver the results the team needs.
