Steven Pienaar turned 41 years old on the 17th of March 2023. He will go down as one of the best players South Africa has ever produced.
At his age, Schillo has achieved a lot from a football perspective, as he has a stellar career abroad which he can be proud of. He is currently pursuing a career in coaching, where he hopes to replicate, if not better, his playing career.
“Happy birthday my crazy hubby.” His wife Awa Pienaar posted on social media.
“Love you and our amazing family. I’m very thankful what we’ve reached over the years and how far we have come together. Now let’s create more memories together”
The couple has given birth to a staggering five children together.
School Of Excellence
Pienaar is a product of the famed School of Excellence, where many players of yesteryear where produced. Currently, their latest product is young Siyabonga Mabena who made is debut for Mamelodi Sundowns aged just 16 years old.
However, Schillo feels that the academy isn’t producing players like they have in the past.
“When I was there it was totally different,” he told Times LIVE in 2020
“Transnet pumped in a lot of money into the school because they believed in the project, and they were fully behind it.
“Over the last couple of years, the school has been going a bit downward with not enough players coming through for different reasons.
“I don’t know if it’s the financial part of things with sponsors not putting enough money in or what,” he added.
