Chelsea created more than enough chances to come away with something. Joao Felix was the biggest culprit, missing some clear opportunities.
Karim Adeyemi was able to score the only goal of the match, in stunning fashion. He went on a solo run and found the back of the net.
“The win tonight was crucial, and it was unbelievable to play in front of these fans. We wanted to give Chelsea a tough game from start to finish and we’ve won.” Adeyemi told UEFA.
Jude Bellingham also spoke on the importance of the victory.
“I think it’s a good win for us at home, definitely. But its only a one goal lead.
“We know how quickly a team like Chelsea can carve us open and create chances to score goals. They nearly did it tonight.
“I think we’ve got to be grateful that we’ve performed the way we have, but not get too carried away and understand that we’ve got another big job on our hands in the second leg.
“[Karim Adeyemi] is rapid and we know how fast he is. He shows us all the time in training.
“It’s just about putting him in an environment where he feels like he can use his strengths to the benefit of the team. He did that there as soon as he broke loose.
“We all though he had a chance to score, and he did, so it was a massive performance from him.” The Englishman concluded.
