BREAKING | Sundowns Decides Themba Zwane’s Future At The Club!

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly decided the future of Themba Zwane at the club as their deal approaches the end. The Brazilians maven playmaker has been the real heart-pumping machine for the Pretoria-based club in recent years and are surely looking to retain him.

In fact, Zwane’s contract came to an end last year in July, however, the club had in their hands a choice to exercise the option of another year or let the player go. As expected they activated another year which was the season that recently ended.

The 32-year-old is one of the senior players at Sundowns and made 42 appearances across all competitions last season. He went on to win the MTN 8 Cup, DStv Premiership and Nedbank Cup with the club and it would be a shock if ‘Mshishi’ as he’s affectionately known wouldn’t be interested in a new deal with Masandawana unless greener pastures come abroad.

As per Soccer Laduma’s source, Zwane and Downs are in the final stages of the talks and it appears all parties are happy with a new deal of two years. “The club is busy with the contract of Themba Zwane and that’s what we are working on at the moment. It’s in the final stages and the boy is staying to continue with his I’mmense contribution to the team. It’s a two-year contract and all the parties happy with it. Expect an announcement in the coming days,” confirmed the source.

Zwane ‘a pillar of strength’ at Downs – Mnqithi

Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has worked with Zwane for almost eight years now as the former Golden Arrows trainer joined Bafana BaStyle as an assistant coach in 2014. Earlier this year, he described Zwane as someone who makes the whole team as it can be so significant when he’s absent.

“Though one would always say Themba Zwane is one of the best players in the country. Age aside the boy has been consistent and the question is, what does he need to do? Maybe he must go to Home Affairs and change his age only, because the truth of the matter is he is a pillar of strength in our team, and he helps us to really navigate our way, which I also believe he can help the national team, but we must not be greedy sometimes.” Said Mngqithi on the Ultimate Sports Show.

Did you know? Zwane has never played for any other PSL team except when he was loaned to Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2012.
