Bruno Fernandes Explains the Positivity Benni McCarthy Brings to Manchester United! The former Bafana Bafana international had a made quite the impression on his players.
Benni McCarthy was unveiled as the new striker coach to Manchester United before the season began. Midfielder Bruno Fernandes has hailed the impact that the former striker has had on his new team.
McCarthy’s CV as a player speaks for itself. Famously, he won the 2004 UEFA Champions League with FC Porto under the management of José Mourinho.
After this triumph, he played in the Premier League representing Blackburn Rovers and then West Ham, before returning to Orlando Pirates.
He left a huge mark at FC Porto and at Blackburn Rovers. So much so that he is remembered as a legend in those areas.
“He’s been really nice. He’s a pleasure for me because as a young player I was seeing him in Portugal, playing obviously for FC Porto, scoring many goals, and it was a joy to see him.” Bruno Fernandes told Julia Stuart and SuperSport TV.
“Having him now, for many of my friends and some of my family who support Porto, it is good for them because they can come to Manchester to come and see him. They will get a photo with him and everything.
“Working with him, he’s a really funny person. He’s always positive and he’s got good energy in the dressing room and on the training ground.
“He was quality as a player and he’s quality and a manager because we do many drills from finishing and headers as well, which he was really good at when he was playing. So, he can help us score more goals, that we weren’t able to before.
“He’s a funny person, he’s always happy, he brings a good energy, he’s always positive, trying to help us. As I said before, I know him from Portugal.
“Sometimes I do some jokes with him, I say he wasn’t that good when he played for Porto. Our second coach Mitchell (van der Gaag) was playing in Portugal too so, they know each other, they always joke around about when they played against each other.
“So, as I said, he’s a person who brings nice vibes and good energy and hopefully he can be helpful for us during the season,” the Portuguese midfielder added.
He helped his team claim a 2-1 victory over their archrivals Liverpool last night. Bruno Fernandes Explains the Positivity Benni McCarthy Brings to Manchester United!
