Cape Town City In PSL Hot Soup Over Mpho Makola Ban Comments
Despite there being a huge outcry over the severity of the sanction handed out to Cape Town City player, Mpho Makola for shoving a referee, Cape Town City might have taken it too much overboard with their comments and open criticism of the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) decision to ban midfielder Mpho Makola for six-months.
Cape Town City have since the PSL DC decision vowed to challenge the decision criticising and seeking sympathisers claiming the sanction did not fit the crime.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder, Makola received the stiff and “harsh” suspension for pushing referee Abongile Tom in the Telkom Knockout defeat to Kaizer Chiefs at the Cape Town Stadium last month.
City appear to have been less than impressed with the decision and blatantly slammed the disciplinary process conducted by prosecutor Nande Becker.
“The comments made by Cape Town City are under consideration for possible further action by the League,” said Becker.
“The matter has been re-enrolled for argument in respect of an appropriate sanction against the club. This hearing will take place on 26 November.”
There is a possibility that,the comments made by Cape Town City are going to attract reprisals from the PSL.
Makola’s ban has indeed shocked many in the South African football fraternity as the norm has been that of offenders receiving very light sentences for serious acts of ill discipline.
Makola’s ban is effective from November 15 meaning he will miss the rest of the 2019/2020 season unless Cape Town reach the FA Cup final, scheduled for May 23.
