Casric Stars Held as Motsepe Foundation Championship Heats Up

Casric Stars’ unbeaten run in the Motsepe Foundation Championship continued, but their perfect start ended after a 1-1 draw against Baroka FC on Sunday afternoon.

Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele struck first through Kagiso Selemela’s powerful finish before the break. Stars replied moments into the second half when Decide Chauke found the equaliser. The result kept Stars at the summit of the table, but their lead has now been trimmed to just one point over Milford FC.

Cape Town City 1-1 Kruger United
Cape Town City’s struggles in the second tier continued with a 1-1 draw against Kruger United. Emile Witbooi gave City the advantage early in the first half, but Thulani Ndlela quickly levelled for the visitors. Neither side found the winner, leaving City still winless after four games.

The Bees 1-3 Milford FC
Milford FC climbed to second with a convincing 3-1 victory away to The Bees in Nelspruit. Jabulile Gxakoshe opened the scoring before halftime, and the pressure continued after the restart with goals from Mjabulise Mkhize and Vusumuzi Mthabela. Sicelo Masilela scored a late consolation for The Bees.

Highbury FC kept their impressive run going with a narrow 1-0 win over Midlands Wanderers on Saturday. Senzo Ndlovu struck after halftime to seal all three points, extending Highbury’s unbeaten start to the campaign.

Black Leopards 1-1 Lerumo Lions
Black Leopards, returning to action after a week’s break, played out a 1-1 draw with Lerumo Lions in Thohoyandou. Betheul Muzeu gave the hosts a halftime lead, but the newly-promoted Lions equalised after the restart to earn a valuable point on the road.

Upington City 1-0 Gomora United
Upington City recorded their second victory of the season with a 1-0 win against Gomora United. Givemore Khupe’s first-half strike proved decisive as Gomora failed to mount a comeback after the break.

University of Pretoria 0-0 Hungry Lions
The University of Pretoria remain without a win after being held to a 0-0 draw by Hungry Lions at AmaTuks Stadium. The match produced few clear chances, with both sides lacking the edge to push for victory.

The weekend’s results tightened the table at the top. Casric Stars still lead but face increasing pressure from Milford FC and Highbury FC. At the bottom end, Cape Town City and University of Pretoria continue to struggle, raising early concerns about their campaigns.
