10 Things You Don’t Know About Lehlogonolo Masalesa

Midfield is the engine and belly of any team, game and winning. A midfield has to read the game, control and direct the game, such is a great and hardworking player like Lehlogonolo Masalesa. These are the 10 things you don’t know about 24 year old Masalesa.

  1. Lehlogonolo Masalesa left Pirates on the 1st of January to go play AEL FC in Greek Super League.
  2. Masalesa is a product of Africa Sports Youth Development Academy.
  3. Masalesa joined Platinum Stars coming from Africa Sports Youth Academy and only played once for Dikwena between 2009 and 2010.
  4. Masalesa was nicknamed Viera by South African sports commentator Baba Mthethwa. Mthethwa compared hi great agility and confidence with the ball to that of French Football star Viera. Soon after that Masalesa has always been called V12.
  5. In the 2016 Carling Black Label Cup, newly signed Bucs player Ben Morrison was given Masalesa jersey number 12, prompting Masalesa to inquire about his future with Bucs and soon following that Masalesa was training with the Bucs youth team and not the senior team. At AEL FC Masalesa wears jersey number 12 after signing a two year contract.
  6. Masalesa was a free agent prior to leaving Pirates and both Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City tabled offers for the star midfielder but he opted for an overseas move as its always been his dream to play overseas.
  7. Since joining AEL in January, Masalesa has had 9 appearances for the Greek Super League team and is destined for more appearances.
  8. Ever since joining the Greek side, he has helped the team move from the relegation zone, number 16 on the log and up to 13th. He is now a regular in the first line-up.
  9. Although Masalesa is from Mankweng in Limpopo, he grew up and played soccer in the dusty grounds of Alexandra.
  10. Masalesa off the field of play is a very spiritual person, just like Reneilwe Letsholonyane.
