Owen Da Gama Parts Ways With Black Lions And Returns To South Africa

Former Orlando Pirates coach Owen Da Gama has returned to South Africa after leaving Botswana Premier League side Black Lions. The club confirmed the separation through a formal statement and described the decision as a mutual agreement. Da Gama spent only a few months with the team.
He joined Di Bata Dia Rora in August after the club secured the status of VTM. His short spell produced 13 points in 14 matches. The team sits in 10th place on the league table. His departure comes at a time when the club is trying to stabilise its position and build a stronger technical structure.
Black Lions thanked Da Gama for his work and professionalism. The club said he brought commitment and discipline to the squad. They also wished him success in his next role. Attempts to contact the club’s communication manager, Portia Mlilo, for clarity on the future of the remaining technical staff were unsuccessful.
Da Gama now returns to the South African coaching scene. He has already been linked with the vacant position at Durban City. The club is without a permanent head coach after parting ways with Gavin Hunt this week. Simo Dladla is currently leading the team while management continues the search for a new coach.
Da Gama is known for his experience in local football. He saved Magesi FC from Betway Premiership relegation last season. His return adds another experienced figure to the pool of available coaches in South Africa. His next move will attract interest from clubs looking for stability and proven leadership.
His spell in Botswana ends quietly. His next chapter is expected to unfold soon as Durban City evaluate their options.
