Chelsea Pair Pulisic And Giroud In Contention For Premier League Honour

The outstanding form shown by Chelsea pair Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud at the conclusion of our league campaign has earned them nominations for the latest EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month award.

July is normally a time when there is a break from these monthly awards, which are decided by votes from the public combined with those of club captains and a panel of football experts, but this year there were seven Premier League games played by Chelsea during it.

In that seven, centre-forward Giroud scored an impressive five goals including the openers in our home win over Watford and away victory at Crystal Palace. His header was the only goal when we beat Norwich and although his strike in the defeat at Anfield was the only goal that did not come with three points, we bounced back to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend with Giroud scoring the second goal just before half-time to give the team breathing space in the quest for Champions League qualification.

Pulisic was another star of our run-in to a top-four place, catching the eye with his penetrating play and scoring an outstanding goal against Palace, as well as making the scoresheet as a substitute at Liverpool.

In that same game he supplied an assist for Tammy Abraham to score soon after coming on and it was from a Pulisic cross that Giroud netted the winner against Norwich.

Giroud has been named Premier League Player of the Month once before, back in March 2015 in his Arsenal days. No Chelsea player has picked up one of the awards this season.
