CONFIRMED: Marc Van Heerden Finds New Home After Partying Ways With Stellies

Cape Town City have confirmed the signing of former Orlando Pirates left-back Marc van Heerden. The veteran defender parted ways with Stellenbosch at the end of the 2021/22 season and now joins another Mother City-based club as a free agent.

The 34-year-old has mentioned it before that he’s not looking to retire anytime soon and will add options for the Citizens coach Eric Tinkler in the left-back position. The club’s head coach welcomed Van Heerden’s signing “in line with the club’s plan to assemble a big enough squad for domestic and Champions League football.”

“The difficulties that we face this coming season, both on the continent and on the home front, we need a little bit more experience and depth in our squad from the first game in August,” the coach concluded.

“He will be extremely fundamental during that period with the wealth of experience that he has, the type of discipline that he brings in terms of his ambition, wanting to still achieve more even at his age. That leadership quality, his work ethic that he produces on the field of play and Marc van Heerden obviously brings that in bundles. I think he’s a fantastic addition to the squad,” said Tinkler.

AYANDA PATOSI TO REUNITE WITH CAPE TOWN CITY?

As Diski365 reported that a few weeks ago former Bafana Bafana player Ayanda Patosi was training with the Citizens, however, the club said there was no intention of signing the player as he always trains with them during pre-season.

“No, nothing is happening at the moment hey, every off-season in Iran he comes to Cape Town and has some training sessions with us when he’s off, that’s the same as every other year that he’s been there,” club’s media officer Julian Bailey told KickOff.

“He is still with the club in Iran, that’s the latest as far as I know. The last few years, he’s been joining us for pre-season because they start a lot later than us. I’m sure the chairman is beefing up, but with Patosi at the moment, it’s the same as every year, training with us.”

Now, according to Soccer Laduma, the player who has been plying his trade at Foolad FC in Iran is in talks to rejoin Tinkler’s troops as they’re also strengthening the squad for the CAF Champions League.
