The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is set to kick off later this month. SAFA President Danny Jordaan believes that Banyana Banyana are ready for the competition.
There was turmoil in the national team camp when the first team boycotted their farewell match against Botswana this weekend. This was because of bonus issues.
However, the Motsepe Foundation stepped in and brokered an agreement between SAFA and Banyana Banyana. They travelled for Australia and New Zealand, that very same day.
Jordaan insists they won’t be distracted and are mentally ready for the challenges ahead.
“The team will now embark on the journey to the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and we are confident they have what it takes to make the country proud. They are mentally ready to face Sweden, Argentina and Italy as they fly out today (yesterday),” Jordan spoke.
Minister of Sports, Arts & Culture Zizi Kodwa is the one who called on the Motsepe Foundation to help alleviate the matter.
“I made the call for SAFA and SAFPU to come together to urgently address the concerns raised by Banyana Banyana who inspire the country so much.
“I am happy that they came together. The Motsepe Foundation was also approached, and I am thrilled by the contribution that they made.
“Banyana Banyana can now focus fully on the FIFA Women’s World Cup, knowing that their immediate concerns have been addressed.” He added.
