SAFA President Danny Jordaan is hoping that Kaizer Chiefs can spread some much-needed good news in Mzansi. They face the monumental task of dethroning reigning champions Al Ahly.
Chiefs are the much less fancied opposition for this showpiece match. However, many believe that their underdog status will be to their benefit on Saturday.
Jordaan says that in a year full of turmoil for South Africa, a CAF Champions League victory would spread positivity across the country.
“This match is historical for Kaizer Chiefs, and it would be tremendous for Amakhosi to win this Edition. There has been so much happening in the country, depressing developments and winning the Champions Trophy would give South Africans some really much needed good news,” Danny Jordaan told the media.
“Kaizer has done tremendous work for South African football and winning the CAF Champions League title will be befitting reward for the hard work he has dedicated to the game. He is an icon of South African football, and I am wishing him all the best,” he added.
Irrespective of who will win this game, the South African flag will be flown at the final. As Al Ahly’s technical team has three South Africans, spearheaded by Pitso Mosimane.
“To the technical team (of Kaizer Chiefs), support staff and players, I want to wish you all the best in Morocco. You have come this far, so go there and enjoy yourself.
“Make the country proud. South Africa seriously need some positive lift.
“Believe in yourself and play for the club’s badge, your country, family and for your careers. In Kaizer Chiefs we believe,’’ Jordaan concluded.
