Did you see Pirates’ new tracksuits? It’s CAF final vibes

Orlando Pirates jetted off to Nigeria earlier this week to prepare for CAF Confederation Cup that will take place on Friday, 20 May in Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Uyo). They will be up against Morroco’s RS Berkane who defeated TP Mazembe to reach the final stage.

What’s the story?

Walking in groups at OR Tambo, Johannesburg, the Buccaneers were on their new Adidas tracksuits. It is black but light coloured with distinctive dark spots on the arms – a leopard colour.

This is a spirit for Ezimnyama Ngenkani who are looking to clinch their second CAF competition after they won the Champions League in 1995. This is the only opportunity for Bucs to avoid ending the season trophyless after missing all three domestic trophies.

Could these leopard spots inspire Buccaneers to break Berkane apart?

Pirates and Adidas

It has been more than 20 years since Pirates and Adidas partnered. The German company is well-known for unleashing top clothing for football clubs. The big teams like Manchester United and Arsenal recently joined the three lines.

When the Buccaneers won the Champions League back in 1995, Adidas was the sponsor and is surely looking to make another history with Sea Robbers.

Earlier this season, Adidas introduced a new Zodwa Khoza inspired Heritage Collection. It’s the classic jersey that they now wear off-field. Khoza was the brand manager of Pirates as well as the daughter of chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza. She passed away in 2006.

“Orlando Pirates and adidas have gone back to their roots with a retro-inspired off-field jersey that features Adidas’s Originals logo – the last time the Originals logo was used on-field in SA was in 1997,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

“The jersey is branded with the logo of the Zodwa Khoza Foundation further extending this long-standing Orlando Pirates and adidas partnership to the grassroots levels.”

Could this classic jersey bring the old luck when Pirates clash with Berkane?
