Durban City FC Poised for Betway Premiership Return Amid New Signings and Sponsor Reveal

Durban City FC, fresh off their 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship triumph, are gearing up for their Betway Premiership comeback with a cautious yet optimistic approach to squad building. Although the club remains tight-lipped about official signings, a glimpse of their evolving roster came over the weekend as six new players featured in a friendly against Golden Arrows.

The match, held on Saturday, ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat for Durban City, with Domingo scoring the team’s sole goal. This outing offered fans a first look at several recruits who could play vital roles in the upcoming topflight campaign under the guidance of new head coach Gavin Hunt.

As the club transitions back to South Africa’s premier league, they have been rigorously assessing talent on the training ground, aiming to blend youthful energy with seasoned experience. Key players like Domingo, Thabo Nodada, Darren Keet, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Craig Martin, and Thabang Sibanyoni remain part of the squad, though their contract statuses are still under review.

Club chairman Farook Kadodia shared insights into the current situation, telling KickOff.com, “At the moment, we are still settling in. Yes, there are players we have signed, but we haven’t made any announcements yet. Hlatshwayo has not signed yet, Nodada has not signed, and Martin has not signed. They are still under observation. Let’s allow the club to make its official statement when it is released later this week.”

In addition to player updates, Durban City is also set to announce a new sponsorship deal that will further strengthen their foundation as they prepare for the rigors of the Premiership.

Durban City’s Betway Premiership journey kicks off on August 9 with an away fixture against TS Galaxy, marking a significant milestone after their recent promotion. Supporters will be watching closely to see how the club’s new-look squad and off-field developments translate into performances on the pitch.
