Edson Castillo Joins Venezuelan Side Carabobo FC After Kaizer Chiefs Exit

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo has officially joined Venezuelan club Carabobo FC following his departure from the South African team earlier this year. Castillo’s move comes after a mutual agreement with Kaizer Chiefs to terminate his contract in July, ending his stint at the club that began with high expectations. Sources suggest that while Chiefs were interested in retaining him, Castillo was eager to secure more regular playing time.
During his time at Kaizer Chiefs, Castillo faced challenges establishing consistent minutes on the pitch. Injuries and stiff competition in central midfield limited his opportunities, despite featuring in several Betway Premiership matches and contributing goals across his spell. His early performances under former coach Molefi Ntseki had set high expectations, but he struggled to maintain that level of impact consistently.
Castillo’s decision to leave was also influenced by his international ambitions. Limited playing time at club level posed a risk to his spot in the Venezuela national team. He did participate in FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June, but maintaining a regular presence on the field was crucial for his international career.
Initially, Castillo had been expected to return for Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season, with his contract running until June next year after an option was triggered. However, discussions between the player and the club led to a mutual agreement for an early exit. Carabobo FC has now secured Castillo, offering him the chance for more regular play and a fresh start in his career abroad.
The move represents a new chapter for Castillo, who will aim to re-establish himself as a key figure both at the club and international levels. Carabobo FC will benefit from his experience in competitive leagues, while Castillo gains the opportunity to rebuild momentum and maintain his national team ambitions.
