France Claim Difficult Win Over Republic of Ireland! Les Bleus continued their march to qualify for the European Championships.

France won 1-0 away to the Republic of Ireland in their UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers. That is now two wins in two matches for the French.

The former world champions added another victory to their first one against the Netherlands last Friday. They seem to be in pole position to qualify to next year’s showpiece event.

Benjamin Pavard scored the only goal of the game in the second half of the encounter.

“It was a tough game.” France head coach Didier Deschamps told UEFA.

“Ireland is always difficult to play here. We had few chances, they defended very well.

“They were dangerous at the end, especially from set pieces. We have a young team, but they have quality and character too.

“We have six points from our two games – that’s important.

“We didn’t concede a goal and scored five across the two games. There are lots of positives.

“Our players are young, but they have every chance to succeed at the top level. I’m very proud of what the team has done over these two games.” He spoke.

Ireland captain Seamus Coleman was disappointed to have lost the match, after their own solid display.

“We’re disappointed and frustrated, but that’s why they’re such a good team. We didn’t allow them a lot of chances.

“I thought we defended well, kept them quiet: there’s lots of positives to take from the game.” The Irishman spoke.
