Given Msimango Looks to Reignite Chiefs Career After Injury Layoff

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi believes Given Msimango has returned at the right time to fight for his future at Naturena. Msimango, part of the squad that travelled to Egypt for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage opener against Al Masry, did not feature in the matchday 18. However, being included in the travelling squad signals he is close to breaking into the first team for the first time since April, when an injury sidelined him for several months.
Msimango is in his third season with the Soweto giants, but his journey has been disrupted by injuries, inconsistent form, and limited game time. The promise he showed after joining from TS Galaxy has yet to fully materialize, making this season pivotal for the defender. With his contract running until June 2027, he still has time to prove his worth, but Tsotetsi believes the current season offers a critical opportunity.
“He has not been getting game time. He is coming from injury, so this season he has to push himself and try to get as much game time as he can. He has to convince management to retain him for next season, so that he can prove himself,” Tsotetsi told Soccer Laduma.
Tsotetsi emphasized Msimango’s quality and potential impact. “He is one quality player and I think he still has something to give the team. I believe he is ready to compete and he just needs an opportunity. I believe it will be good for him to fight for his position and work hard so that he gets game time.”
Chiefs will be back in Confederation Cup action this weekend when they host Egyptian side Zamalek in Polokwane. After losing their opener to Al Masry, the club cannot afford further slip-ups. Msimango’s return to full fitness and form could provide the defensive depth and stability Chiefs need as they aim to recover in the group stage. This season represents a crucial chance for him to establish himself and secure his long-term future at Naturena.
